Keeping your teeth clean when you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment is one of the most important things you have to do. Dirty teeth can cause cavities, gum disease, and even tooth death – three things you don’t want to deal with when wearing braces.
So let’s look at some of the quickest, most effective ways to clean your teeth while wearing braces.
By far and away, flossing is one of the most important things you can do while wearing your braces. Food is notorious for getting stuck between our teeth without metal brackets and wires on them – it’s even worse with braces.
Special flossing tools are designed for those with braces, and you can even use a water flosser (commonly called a water pique) if you really want to make a big difference in the cleanliness of your teeth.
Obviously this is an important step, but it’s the type of brushing you need to do that most people overlook. Cleaning between the wires and the surface of your teeth is most important, and there are special brushes made to do just this. If you need advice on which one to use, call our Lee A.
